Granddad Bruce

I have sat and stared at the computer screen for minutes trying to decide how to write this blog. It is with great sadness I have to say that my dear, sweet Granddad Bruce passed away Friday morning at his home. I will be heading to Carrollton, Missouri to be with my Finlayson family and celebrate the wonderful life of Bruce Finlayson. I want to thank you all for the kind words through facebook, text message, phone calls and prayers. It is very much appreciated. I love you Granddad Bruce!!

Lent

I just realized that today is Ash Wednesday. Oops..I'm going to be giving up soda for Lent and I had one this morning. DANGIT! But from now on I will not be drinking soda. Hopefully this will be the kick in the butt I need to give them up completely. Happy Hump Day!

Hey-O!

Whew. We are back to reality. Get ready for a long post with pictures to come. Ruidoso was a great get away. For the most part we had an awesome trip. There were a few hiccups. We had an original plan and should've stuck with it the entire trip but we didn't. Zane, Adam, Brit, Murph and I left around 1:30 on Friday to check in by 6. Our cabin was perfect, it was called Little John! 2 Stories 4 queen beds and sleeper sofa with two bathrooms. Logan, Taylor, Court and Jenn got into Ruidoso later that night and we decided that we would stay in. Jenn and Taylor cooked us an awesome dinner, pizza and spaghetti! We played Jenga, catch phrase and guesstures. Adam won the MVP award for guesstures. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time.

Early Saturday morning Logan, Adam and Taylor headed to the mountain to board and ski. The rest of us slept in and took our time getting ready. We all had sandwiches for lunch in the cabin and watched some deer walking around outside. Right after lunch Court got a phone call from Logan saying he had fallen on the mountain and hit his head pretty hard. He says he thinks he got a mild concussion so Court, Zane and I go pick him up. Zane was secretly happy because now he wasn't hanging out with the girls alone! Once we got back to the cabin we were all about to load up the car to head down to the shops and there were at least 20 deer around our cabin. So we grabbed a loaf of bread and fed them. Eventually they came right up to our hands and eat it! It was crazy, I had never done that before. We went to the shops for maybe 45 minutes when Taylor and Adam were done and heading back to the cabin. They all showered and we headed out to find a restaurant for dinner, it was 6pm when we left the cabin.

We stopped at 5 different restaurants that were either at their capacity and not taking any more guests, had no tables to sit down and eat or the wait was over an hour and a half. Finally we saw a mexican restaurant and decided to go in. El Camino Nuevo. (Side Note: Zane and I had been there 6 years ago and the service was horrible, the waitress spilt hot sauce down my back , the food was ok and they could not split checks. We shared that story but decided that surely in 6 years something could have improved) There was no wait. We were seated in a back room with no one else sitting there. Ordered drinks and some queso. We noticed that the first basket of chips were free but after that there was a charge. We also noticed on the back of the menu in small print that there was a 15% gratuity for parties of 5 or more plus 10% for split checks. The queso comes out and literally is cheese soup with some green chiles in it. It was beyond watery and tasted like pure garlic. It was disgusting. At this point all of us were debating what to do next since we had ordered our food but no one wanted to stay and eat it. Taylor went and talked to management and said "cancel our order we will pay for the drinks and queso but we don't want our food" We all had our coats on and were getting up from the table when the cook comes out and says our food is coming out "Right now! just stay and try it" and asked us "did the waitress not warn you thats how we make our queso?".

From there we all decide to give it a chance. I'd say 15 mintues later most of the food is out and we are all picking and trying our dinners. Logan still hasn't recieved his meal yet. I'm not exaggerating, I am getting nauseas just thinking about this. Murph had hair in her entree. Court had gotten chicken tenders with fries and toast. She was snacking on her fries while waiting for everyone. We were all jealous that she had gotten chicken tenders. Until she bites into one and the whole thing is completely raw. Pink and raw. I was so disgusted at this point, that could kill someone! We all stood up and left. Those who had beer paid for their beers. I have never walked out of a restaurant before but it was necessary. As I type this I realize that it does not seem as horrifying as it was in real life. Just know that if you go to Ruidoso do not eat at El Camino Nuevo!

After the dinner fiasco none of us were hungry and decide to just go to Inn of the Mountain Gods Casino. I played $3 in slots and was done. The other girls played a few slots too. Zane and Logan played black jack and lost some money. Taylor found a poker table and played one hand that was a high straight and won $70 and was done. We sat in the hotel lounge and had a few drinks. After that we left to go eat. We had a Sonic Car and Mcdonlads Car. We were told that there were 3 sonics in Ruidoso and that they close at midnight so we pull up at 11:15 and they are closed. We drive ALL of ruidoso to find out that the other Sonics are 40 miles away. So we drive all the way back to mcdonalds, after driving around for an hour to find the other sonics we finlally got home, ate and crashed.

Sunday morning everyone wakes up to Jenn and Taylor cooking breakfast. YUM! Everyone eats, packs and cleans the whole cabin. Remember how I mentioned the cabin was two stories? Well the stairs were very steep and the stairs themselves were very shallow. I walked upstairs to give Murph a jacket and my snow paints were underneath my heel and I fell down the stairs. OWIE!!!!!! Of course I start crying because it scared me and it hurt. As I was sliding down the stairs I held onto the banister and pulled the muscels in my shoulder, back and side. I woke up this morning and I have full range of motion but I can't do much with my right arm at all. It's all pretty sore. After those tears we had one last photo shoot with the deer and cabin and hit the road to go tubing.

Tubing was SO much fun! Poor Logan couldn't partake because of his head injury. Zane and I rode a double tube and then we got a monster tube that could fit 10. So we all got in, went off a few jumps and it was awesome! Video to come. Our last run was a train with all of us linked at our feet. We saw a ton of Red Raiders there too. After tubing we stopped at another Mexican Restaurant called Casa Blanca and it was amazing! Zane and I want to take a trip in the summer to go watch the horse races. Be sure to come back and look at the pictures once I load them.

We had a great time with everyone and can't wait to go back again sometime soon! HEY-O!

Bucket List

WHOA! Two blogs in one day? I know I must be crazy! I was reading a friends blog and he had posted his bucket list and encouraged his followers to share their bucket lists in the comments. So I did. And he inspired me to do the same. So thank you Thomas! I just did the first 10 that I could think of. I know there is more and that is something that I will keep updating fover.

Please share your bucket list and maybe we can help each other achieve our goals! Of course these will not be things that can happen tomorrow but things that I would like to achieve in my lifetime.

1.Be a Mom

2.Travel to Italy/Greece/Scotland

3.Ride in a Helicopter

4.Meet Ellen Degeneres

5.Take Dancing Lessons

6.Introduce Zane to my Grandad Bruce

7.Live closer to my parents

8.Become a photographer

9.Skydive

10.Volunteer more

Ruidoso

The past month has been really hard on Zane. He has been working 5am-5pm if not later almost everyday of the week. Poor guy, normally this is his off season and he is relaxing. I think I hate it more than he does.

Adam, who is one of our college friends now lives in L.A. and he had planned a trip to Lubbock for this weekend. We were so excited that he was coming but the rest of us wanted to get out of Lubbock for a weekend. So I threw out the idea of going to Ruidoso, NM. I didn't think it would happen but EVERYONE wanted to go. YAY! Me, Zane, Jennifer, Taylor, Courtney, Logan, Adam and Brittney are going to stay in a cabin for the weekend.

Ruidoso is about 5 hours away from Lubbock.  It will be a VERY quick trip but it is very much needed. Taylor and Adam are going to go Snow Boarding and Skiing and then the rest of us are going to go night tubing! I'm beyond excited about tubing. We will probably go to the Casino, hopefully win some money and just enjoy each others company. Who doesn't love a road trip?

Heavy Heart

Last night I had a very heavy heart and it continues this morning. I haven't been a very churchy or godly woman. Zane and I have been going to church every sunday the past month except we missed this past sunday and I have felt lost this week. Last night I prayed...a lot for my family. For the health of my relatives. Strength and courage for my family. There has been a few things that have happened this week that have made me a basketcase but I know everything happens for a reason and only good will come out of the events that are ocurring. I just needed a place to vent these things and that is what a blog is for.

Weekend recap

After I posted my last blog last Thursday my office closed at Noon. I ended up leaving around 10:30am because I didn't want to sit around and wait for the roads to get worse especially since where I live not all of the roads are paved or heavily traveled on. The next day I had already taken the afternoon off to run some errands and take Boozer to the Vet. So I was planning on going in from 8-12 well we got the mass phone call Thursday evening that the office wasn't opening until 10am so I ended up taking the whole day off. So I had an impromptu 3 1/2 days off! It was so nice! I ended up not leaving the house for 2 straight days. Thank god we did our grocery shopping before the storm hit so we didn't have to go anywhere. Unfortunately Zane had food poisoning on Thursday so I was able to help him when I could. Saturday I finally got out and did some shopping and decided we should do something fun so a group of us went bowling! It was so fun and we ended up seeing some old friends. I'm awful, I mean just horrible at bowling but it's still fun! Sunday I went into work with Zane for a little while, there are some coach changes that are going on. So Zane is unsettled and on his toes most of the day. Then we watched the grammy's. I actually really enjoyed them this year. There were some amazing artists that performed. While I was shopping on saturday I went to target and they had put out 3D glasses for free because there was a special 3D performace for Michael Jackson. There were four in a pack so Boozer even got some! I hope everyone has a great week!
