Part 2 of Zane & Erica

Courtship

I was accepted into Texas Tech and could not have been more thrilled! I finished up summer school at Tarleton and moved to Lubbock in August of 2003. A four bedroom apartment with my girlfriends, single and ready to start the rest of my college career.

I went through rush and became a Delta Gamma. I met most of the girls while on Spring Break so it was fun. Zane was not in a fraternity, although all of his friends were Sig Ep's he was kind of an honorary member. I was still spending time with the guy from Spring Break- I thought it was going somewhere at the time. My first "date-party" was called Rockstar and I asked Zane and Lee to go with me. We had a BLAST! I remember Zane sat on my lap the entire ride home on the bus.

Throughout the fall semester Zane and I would see each other whenever we would hang out with our mutual friends. He started calling me and asking me out on a date-I would either blow it off or make up some excuse why I couldn't go. But boy was he persistent, he asked me for months. We would flirt casually whenever we hung out but I never really thought of him that way. He was shy, witty, goofy, caring and fun.

Finally, I said yes to go on a date with him. I told him that we should just go to McDonalds and keep it low key. But he had other plans. On December 13th, it was one of the coldest nights I can remember he picked me up in his black beauty truck. The entire time I was getting ready I was telling Lindsay "I just don't really want to go!". He took me to Orlando's, a locally owned Italian restaurant. We split a cheese pizza and just talked and laughed. When we were done he took me to meet his Mom. I was so embarrassed because she was in her pajamas and he had insisted that we meet. Afterwards we rented a movie went back to my apartment and took it easy.   The night flew by and neither one of us wanted it to end and I actually kissed him!
