Our little getaway

We had a great trip! They always go by too fast. We got to Fort Worth Wednesday afternoon with enough time to check in to the hotel and head to Ranger's ballpark. Zane's friend Jaime is the trainer for the Ranger's and he treats us so well when we visit. Tickets, Parking with the team, watching batting practice on the field...Zane was in heaven. We had 5 tickets to the Wednesday night game so Zane's friend Peyton and my cousin Kaitlin and her boyfriend Beau joined us. It was $1 hot dog night and I guess that made up for $7 beers. And the Rangers won!

Then Thursday was our anniversary. Originally I made a reservation at a fondue place and we decided to cancel it. We went to the Ranger's afternoon game. The ONLY thing I did for our anniversary was call ahead and had the rangers put "Happy Anniversary Zane & Erica Perry" on the jumbo tron. So once the 4th inning rolled around I was waiting patiently watching the screen. As soon as I saw Zane's name I slapped him (apparantly hard, but I was excited!) and said look!! He didn't get that excited about it and then I took a picture and he said "is that us?" and I said "yes! Why? You don't like it?" and he said "did you do that?" at this point i'm annoyed that he didn't get a kick out of it. So he says look at your camera...so I did "Happy Anniversary Zane & Erica Penny". Penny? Really? So we are now Zane and Erica Penny.

The Rangers ended up losing but it was a great game. After the game we went to a bar called the Flying Saucer they have over 200 types of beer on tap. So we decided to try a few beers from the UK. We just sat and talked enjoying the beers and decided to go to dinner at Joe T Garcias. A staple in Fort Worth with two things on the menu either fajitas or enchiladas. Neither of us had been there but were told it's great but only get one order of fajitas. It was a TON of food! There was an auction going on behind where we were sitting so we couldn't hear very well but the atmosphere is great. We will definiately be going back. As we were pulling into the hotel I hit the curb. Zane and I both thought it surely had done damage but it just scratched the rim and shaved part of the first layer of the tire off.

Friday morning we woke up got ready checked out of the hotel and headed to the Stockyards. Zane's only request while in Fort Worth was to eat at Coopers BBQ . It's right next to Billy Bobs. We walked up and there is a line out the door. As soon as you walk in its the BBQ pit they ask you what you want and how many pounds of it you want. I was overwhelmed. They literally use their knife to serve it onto a tray after dipping it in their sauce. Then you move on to the slicer, there you can choose your sides coleslaw or potato salad. We decided to share apple cobbler for dessert. The place is full of picnic tables and you just find a seat wherever you can. Let me just tell you i'm not a big BBQ eater, i'll eat it but it wouldn't be my first choice. This place was DELICIOUS. The brisket was the best i've ever had along with the Apple Cobbler...nom nom nom. Soooo good.

We spent the rest of the afternoon walking around the stockyards taking in the history and viewing the museums. Zane had never been to the stockyards so he was excited. After we left the stockyards Zane was really worried about the tire so we took it to Nissan and got a new tire. Maybe all of my Nissan issues were the driver and not the car? After Nissan we went straight to Southlake to see my parents. We visited with them until Logan and Courtney got into town. We went to Johnny B's for dinner, gotta have it! And met up with my old high school friends for drinks and dancing. Saturday was a total girls day. Courtney and I went and got manicures and pedicures and then went shopping while the boys went to Bass Pro Shop. Lindsay's parents had a kentucky derby party so we went and had mint julips and watched the race. Zane got 3rd place! That night we had dinner with my parents for my birthday and had drinks with friends and ended up dancing again.

Sunday was my birthday and I had invited some friends to Johnny B's for a birthday lunch before we hit the road. It was great to see everybody! (Thank you for those that came!) I was not ready to leave on Sunday, i've been super homesick the past few weeks. And driving back to Lubbock, on my birthday, was not ideal. But it was a great trip. Now the countdown is on for DESTIN!

Relay for Life

Tonight is Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society. I did this once in college with Delta Gamma and didn't really enjoy it or do it for personal reasons. This year I have a co-worker who is on the planning committee and she really encouraged me to do it. I have always wanted to but didn't think anyone else would want to be on a team with me. So I reached out to my friends in Lubbock and we now have a team of 12 people! Zane and I both have family members that have battled cancer and this year we are walking for them. I'm specifically walking for my Mom and Grammy; both have survived Colon Cancer along with my mom surviving Melanoma (skin cancer). So think of us tonight while we are walking for cancer and to find a cure!

Today is mikes birthday. Mike is zanes dad. We had taco villa for dinner and gave him a gift card to get a new pair of boots! It was great to celebrate his birthday with the perrys!

Happy Birthday Dianne!

Today is one of my dear friend's birthdays...Dianne! Dianne and I have been friends now for 6 years. She was a Delta Gamma with me and not only that she was my Little Sister. We instantly bonded! Now we are both Advisors for DG. Dianne went to high school in Lubbock and then Tech and moved to Reno, NV literally the day after she graduated in 2006. She even came to Southlake to be in our wedding from Reno! One day she called me and said she was moving to Lake Charles, LA. So she did! And almost 4 months ago she called me and said "I'm moving to Lubbock tomorrow" And she did! I love that about her. We would talk every couple months to just keep in touch and I did miss her that's why I'm so happy she is back in Lubbock!

Ok I thought I woud just do a little side note real quick: I'm sorry I keep changing the background. I just can't find one that I like and then I find one that I like and one of my blogger friends has the same one. But I like change so there ya go!

On Wednesday Zane and I are heading to Fort Worth for our Anniversary (3 years!) and then on to Southlake for the weekend. We got a hotel room in Sundance Square for two nights and we are going to go to a few Rangers Baseball games, the Stockyards (Zane's never been and he loves Cowboy culture) we are going to eat at Simply Fondue, Joe T Garcias and Cooper's BBQ. I'm just excited to get out of town for a few days with Zane! This will be his first Vacation since last July. He deserves it. And then on Friday we are heading to Southlake to go see my parents and celebrate my birthday. I haven't been home since Christmas! I'm excited to spend some time with them and see old friends in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. On Sunday we are going to have Lunch at Johnny B's to celebrate my birthday-everyone is welcome! It's kinda funny because a handful of my Lubbock friends will be in town so they may be stopping by too! It'll fun!

Nissan

I'm not sure i've ever blogged the entire story about our car situation. Most of you that read this know all of the details but there are a few that don't. I'll start by saying that my dad has always leased cars. He had leased a Mazda 3 for me while in college. Well the lease was up and it was time for me to get a car. It was the first time I had dealt with getting a car for myself. We had looked for a long time but Zane and I decided we liked the Nissan Altimas. We ended up leasing one in July of 2008.

Fast forward to November. Texas Tech had just beaten Texas, the #1 team in college football so my friend/co-worker Ryan and I decided we wanted to go to Norman and watch the Tech vs. Oklahoma game. It took about 7 hours to drive there. We went to the game and it was FREEZING!!!!! Needless to say Tech lost...by a lot. When we got up on Sunday morning to drive back to Lubbock there were only 3000 miles on the car. Ryan was in the drivers seat and when he turned on the car it started shaking, chugging and smoke was coming out of the tail pipe. I just thought that maybe the battery was dead. So we let it sit and we go have lunch to let it cool off . We try again and it does the same thing.

Since it was a Sunday the dealerships were closed, all wreckers and car shops were closed...we were officially stuck. So we stayed an extra night in Oklahoma City. All of this time Zane is on the bus driving back to Lubbock so he was completely helpless. Monday morning we call a tow truck and they take us to the dealership. They give us a loaner car so we can grab some lunch and figure out what we are going to do. They figure out that 2 of the 4 cylindars were cracked and the entire car had gone into hydrolock. I'm not really sure what hydrolock means but it was bad. The proceeded to tell me that they have to replace the entire engine. "EXCUSE ME!? This is a brand new car!" They went on to say that I can drive their loaner car back to Lubbock for a few days and then drive back to Oklahoma City to pick up my car when it was ready and drive back to Lubbock. " Um, No! you will deliver my car to Lubbock when its done and we will be flying back to Lubbock today." I thought that when I got back to Lubbock McGavok Nisson would take care of me since I was their customer. They would NOT help me. No loaner car. No Customer Service. Nothing. McGavok ended up making the Oklahoma City Nissan dealership paying for a rental car for me. I filed a complaint with Nissan headquarters and nothing was done. Brent McGavok is the owner and he is a former Red Raider football player so Zane tried to get in touch with him MULTIPLE times and was always put off.

Once they delivered my car back to Lubbock nothing was right. The alignment was off, the brakes were squeeling, there was rattling under the hood everytime I turned, The car just didn't run the same. So I took it back to the dealership...they had left a wrench under the hood. For the next 6 months I was in and out of the dealership at least twice a month for something that it was doing. It is just unfixable. Zane and I researched the Lemon Law. Lawyers that we spoke with said that with the Lemon Law the problem has to occur 3 times, meaning in order for us to file for the Lemon Law they would've had to replace the engine 3 times. So we gave up. Since then we have just come to the realization that we are in an unreliable & unsafe car and to make sure that we have everything in order when we do travel long distances. We keep telling ourselves "we have one more year, we can suck it up and never deal with Nissan again". Don't worry, it was all under warranty.

Last Tuesday one of the new coaches came into Zane's office and said "Zane, I need to get some gear for the guy that's getting our coach cars for us" Zane said "No problem, who is it?" Coach said "Brent McGavok, with McGavok Nissan" and Zane immediately responded jokingly "No, i'm not giving any gear to that guy" from there the coach preceded to ask why and Zane told him the whole story. Turns out the coach grew up with Brent and wanted to fix the problem. Wednesday Zane gets a phone call from Brent's assistant asking us to come in and get things taken care of.  When Zane called me and told me I thought he was kidding. So Thursday we went into the McGavok Nissan dealership and the whole time i'm thinking to myself Are you kidding me? NOW you want to help us? When you find out that your customer works for the Texas Tech football team and he is the one that gives you free clothes? We saw Brent for 5 seconds when he was passing by while we were talking and he said "Hi Zane, we will take care of you this time". So he knows who Zane is.....grrrrr. Needless to say they did help us. We appreciate them helping us now and i'm not complaining but its not right. I am praying that the Altima was just a bad egg.

They cancelled our lease with the Altima and we started a brand new lease on this Murano!! I absolutely love it!
